The following is a list of environmental, human rights, and other special interest organizations whose work is at least partly focused on monitoring activities of one or more international financial institutions in the Africa region. Please note that this list is intended to be a resource and that an organization's inclusion does not necessarily suggest a formal partnership with the Bank Information Center.

  • African Forum and Network for Debt and Development (Afrodad) is a civil society organisation born of a desire to secure lasting solutions to Africa's mounting debt problem which has impacted negatively on the continent's development process. 
  • Third World Network (TWN)-Africa is a non-governmental organization which carries out research and advocacy on issues of social and economic policy that advances the needs and interests of peoples of African and other third world countries (especially marginalized social groups), a fair distribution of the world's resources, and forms of development which are sustainable and fulfill human needs.
  • National Association of Professional Environmentalists (NAPE) is a Ugandan NGO whose membership comprises diverse professionals committed to protecting the environment and promoting environmental and social justice in Uganda. They have been particularly active around energy developments in Uganda, including proposed hydropower projects and geothermal research.
  • Environmental Rights Action (ERA) is a grassroots organization in the Niger Delta of Nigeria committed to the promotion of environmental human rights and responsible governmental, commercial, and social practice through the empowerment of local people to take part in sustainable development of their communities.
  • Center for Environment and Development (CED) promotes the sustainable use of Cameroon’s forests and works to protect the flora, fauna, and local communities who depend upon the forests for survival. The organization has been active in monitoring the impacts of the Chad-Cameroon oil pipeline project, advocating for the protection of indigenous people’s rights and the preservation of Cameroonian forests.
  • Commission Permanente Pétrole (CPP) is comprised of CPP Ndjamena, CPP Locale, and RESAP-MC, three bodies that are each networks of non-governmental organizations, human rights associations and labor unions working to promote and protect environmental, social and economic rights of Chadians in the context of oil development in Chad.
  • Groupe de Recherches Alternatives et de Monitoring du Projet Pétrole Tchad Cameroun (GRAMP/TC) is a non-governmental organization comprised of permanent research staff and associated researchers committed to conducting monitoring reports, evaluations and analytical studies regarding the environmental, social, and economic impacts of petroleum sector activities in Chad, in the service of local communities. The organization conducts participant-observer research in order to provide advocacy structures, like those of the Commission Permanent Pétrole, with information on which to base their lobbying efforts.
  • Friends of the Earth-Ghana (FoE-Ghana) is the largest environmental organization in Ghana, comprised of 19 groups from throughout the country, each with approximately 500 members. Since 1986, they have been working to address and foster public awareness of environmental issues.
  • Center for Public Interest Law (CEPIL) was established in Ghana in 1999 as a public interest law and human rights organization. CEPIL is an indigenous non-governmental, non-profit organization whose aim is to assist poor communities and individuals seek legal redress for violations of their fundamental human rights and freedom.
  • Wassa Association of Communities Affected by Mining (WACAM) is a Ghana-based non-governmental organization whose stated mission is “to network for the protection of the environment, natural resources, and the rights of marginalized mining communities through advocacy, campaign and representation within a legal framework that is sensitive to the concerns of mining communities.
