The following is a list of environmental, human rights, and other special interest organizations whose work is at least partly focused on monitoring activities of one or more international financial institutions in the ECA region.   • Public Finance Monitoring Center (PFMC) (Azerbaijan) set up its activities in Baku in June 2003 under financial support from the Open Society Institute. At present PFMC is a very active organization working on tracing public finance flow in order to achieve efficiency, public participation, and increased transparency in Azerbaijan’s public finance.

Georgia

  • Open Society Georgia Foundation (Tbilisi) administers a number of civil society programs, as part of the OSI network.  In particular, it has developed a Georgia Revenue Watch project, which studies EITI implementation and works for increased transparency in Georgia.

Kazakhstan

  • EcoMuseum Kazakhstan (Karaganda) focuses on the study and protection of biodiversity in the region, conducting environmental monitoring in the regions of industrial and radioactive contamination, and organizing environmental education programs and initiatives.
  • Globus: Center for Ecological and Legal Initiatives (Atyrau) has three focus areas: environmental education, monitoring oil development in the region, and gender issues.
  • Green Salvation (Almaty) was formed in 1990 as an independent NGO with the goal of improving socio-ecological conditions and is now one of the most recognized environmental NGOs in Kazakhstan focusing on the development of environmental protection legislation, the dissemination and collection of environmental information, and the promotion of environmental education.
  • Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law (KIBHR) monitors the human rights situation in Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries and actively participates in the process of democratization in Kazakhstan by distributing information on methods and mechanisms used by citizens of developed democratic countries, in order to protect their inalienable rights and freedoms, to guarantee accountability of the elected, as well as appointed, authorities to the people.
  • Kazakhstan Revenue Watch (Almaty) is a program of the Soros Foundation Kazakhstan and aims to raise public awareness and provide access to information on oil and other natural resource revenue flows.

  • Coalition "Oil Revenues - Under Public Oversight!" is a coalition of non-governmental organizations working for transparency in Kazakhstan's natural resource management.  The group works closely with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. 
  • Public Policy Research Center (Almaty) is a public policy think-tank which strives to carry out independent research, propose alternative solutions to current problems, enhance communication between government and the public, and provide resources and support for policymakers and researchers in Kazakhstan and the region.

Kyrgyz Republic

  • Bureau of Human Rights and Rule of Law was created after an international conference titled "Human Rights and the Fate of Nations in Central Asia," held in Bishkek in December 1992. The main task of the Bureau is to monitor human rights violations and appeal on behalf of victims to Kyrgyz authorities or international human rights organizations.

  • Human Development Center “Tree of Life” is a voluntary non-governmental organization, whose mission is to achieve sustainable human development in harmony with the environment and to increase living standards. It focuses on ecology, education, and health.

  • Open Society Forum (Ulaanbaatar) is an initiative that aims to offer access to information about policies, laws, and regulations and to invite public involvement in the policy-making and implementation-monitoring processes.

Russian Federation

  • Socio-Ecological Union of the West Caucasus advocates for ecological justice in southwestern Russia.  It is based in the Adygeva Republic’s capital of Maikop.  Environmental Watch on North Caucasus (Экологическая вахта по северному кавказу) is part of this network.

  • Revenue Watch Institute works to ensure that the revenues generated by extractive industries contribute to sustainable development and poverty reduction, through the promotion of public finance transparency in resource-dependent countries.
