Concerns echoed by NGOs and Chinese farmers during a symposium on hydropower and sustainable development.
EarthRights International (ERI) voiced its concerns to the Chinese government about human rights and environmental impacts of dams in Burma. EarthRights’ concerns were echoed during a symposium on hydropower and sustainable development on October 27-29 by a number of NGOs and farmers from Southwestern China. ERI’s paper for the conference, which discusses trans-boundary effects of Chinese dams on the Salween River in Burma, was rejected by the organizers on grounds that the paper referred to "Burma" rather than "Myanmar."
