The developer of a diamond mine in Sierra Leone for which MIGA is considering a guarantee, defends itself against concerns raised about its operations and questions the legitimacy of local NGOs.
Koidu Holdings Limited, the developer of the Kimberlite Diamond Mine in Kono, Sierra Leone, wrote a letter to MIGA in response to the critical statements issued by local civil society organizations. The company denies that it began blasting activities before the EIA was completed and questions the authority of Network Movement for Justice and Development, a Sierra Leonean NGO, to speak on behalf of affected populations. It maintains that "the concerns raised by the NMJD, and associated parties, are unsupported and not substantiated by fact."
