Afghanistan

BIC examined IFI re-engagement in Afghanistan in 2004-2005.

BIC is no longer working on this project.

After an absence of 23 years, the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and to a lesser extent, the International Monetary Fund re-engaged with Afghanistan in late 2001. In the Afghanistan Project, BIC will examine re-engagement of International Financial Institutions (IFIs) in Afghanistan, project implementation, community participation in these projects, and IFI adherence to their social and environmental policies as well as their development objectives. BIC will also work with NGOs and civil society to increase knowledge of IFI-funded activities and promote their participation in the development process.
